DO blasts blog report on dengue outbreak during Pesta Lawas
LAWAS: Lawas District Officer Mohd Supaih Hamdan said a blog that reported a dengue outbreak during Pesta Lawas was mischievous and irresponsible as the writer did not verify his facts with the relevant authorities.“I chaired a meeting on dengue fever in Lawas District on June 4, when it was reported that there were only five confirmed dengue cases and the rest were only suspected cases. I instructed all village chiefs and community leaders to help spread the message of cleanliness and prevention,” Mohd Supaih said.
It was alleged in the blog that 25 people were down with dengue in Lawas, and that an aide of Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, had asked the authorities not to make it public for fear of alarming the people.
This was denied by the Medical Department.
Mohd Supaih said it was a frivolous report without facts that belittled efforts undertaken to free the district of dengue.
PBB Bukit Sari chairman Awangku Bahar Pengiran Jinin slammed those who made the allegation blaming Awg Tengah. He said it smacked of mud-slinging.
“It is so irresponsible to make such a wild accusation,” Bahar commented.
He said Awg Tengah and Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong were close to the people, and the latest attack was fault-finding with the two elected leaders from the district.
