Tengah: High morality vital for development

LAWAS: High morality is needed to ensure that the peace, political stability and racial harmony can be maintained to enable the smooth development of the state.

Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that support moral development will be fully supported by the government to facilitate changes in the political landscape and the development of the state.

Second Minister of Planning and Resource Management Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this at the 13th anniversary dinner of the Lawas Che Wu Khor Moral Uplifting Society held at the Lawas Indoor Stadium on Sunday night.

Tengah also expressed concern over the development seen during the 16 April state election when the opposition parties from outside the state simply dismissed moral elements.

However, he believed in the 1Malaysia concept which places people and performance as the priority for unity in diversity and social justice for all in the state and country in general.

“Cultural and moral values such as patience, integrity, wisdom, respect and cooperation must be embedded in our society.Let us together assist the government to achieve the establishment of a very pure society.

“This is also one of the teachings of all religions – to be united with the high morality so that we can focus on national development and this is the commitment of the Barisan Nasional (BN) through the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) to achieve a high-income economy,” said Tengah, who also expressed a sense of pride in the development of Lawas by the BN component parties.

At the dinner, Tengah announced the approval of a piece of land near the Lawas Buddhist temple for the Society to build its own premises where it could organise its activities.

A lso present at the dinner were Member of Parliament for Lawas Datuk Henry Sum Agong, the Chairman of Lawas Che Wu Khor Moral Uplifting Society Henry Liew, Organising Chairman Lim Kian Ming, Pemanca Tan Hua H’ng and Executive Council Members of the Society’s branches from Miri, Bintulu, Labuan and Sabah.
