Morshidi, Roziah Johan Tilawah Al Quran Negeri
LAWAS: Morshidi bin Salleh from Kuching Division scored 80.05 points to emerge champion in the Qari category of the state-level Quran recital competition which ended here on Thursday night.
The first and second runnersup were respectively Dahti bin Bigek from Samarahan Division who scored 79 points and Mohd Safwan bin Mahli (Kuching) with 78 points.
The Qariah category, meanwhile, was won by the defending champion Hajah Roziah bint i Haj i Ayup f rom Mukah Division who scored 86 points.
The runner s -up were Hajah Salina binti Haji Ali (80 points) f rom Mukah and Far ra Li z a binti Mohd Musa (79.05 points) from Kuching.
The champions of both categories received RM7,000, two trophies, a certificate and an ‘umrah’ package each.The first runners-up walked away with RM5,000, a trophy, a gift, and a certificate each while the second runners-up took home RM3,000, a trophy, a gift and a certificate each.
The rest of the finalists in both categories (nine each) were each presented with consolation prizes comprising RM1,500, a gift and a certificate.
On hand to present the prizes to the winners and other finalists were Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhammad Salahuddin and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajah Norkiah.
Also present to witness the final of the competition were Second Minister of Planning and Resources Management Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tegah Ali Hasan and wife Dato Hajah Dayang Morliah, Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur Development Haji Mohd Naroden Majais, Member of Parliament for Lawas Sato Henry Sum Agong, Member of Pa r l i ament for Limbang Hasbi Habibolah, Bukit Kota Assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Jemoreng Assemblyman Abu Seman Jahwie, President of Sarawak Is lamic Counci l (MAIS) Datu Haji Putit Matzen and Limbang Division Resident Maria Hasman.
