MP pays courtesy call on new Lawas Council Secretary

LAWAS : T h e Me m b e r o f Parliament here, Dato Henry Sum Agong has called on the people to work closely with local leaders here including Datuk Amar Hj Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and himself.

Henry said while he would do his best to help, Awang Tengah would be instrumental in ensuring the plans for the district were carried out correctly.

“Everyone including the Lawas District Council personnel must also chip in,” he said after paying a courtesy call to the council’s new Secretary, Zulkifli Haji Sahari at his office here yesterday.

Henry said he would prefer to be a friend rather than an advisor in the joint effort to develop the district.

“When carrying out this task, cooperation from all is important.

It is a team effort.Though we may have been disappointed with the council in the past, now we have new hopes,” he pointed out.

Henry also shared his experiences as a former successful Secretary of the council with Zulkifli so that the latter could be effective in the job.

“In my time, I do the followup myself after receiving the instruction an one hour earlier,” he said.

“We must also have an open mind about complaints from members of the public who want to contribute to the betterment of the district,” he advised.

The council also needed to reconsider the relocation of billboards erected in unsuitable places.

Henry suggested the council should apply for the construction of new libraries in Punang and Long Semadoh and improve the present ones.

He requested the council to study the effectiveness of mobile libraries which, according to him, incurred high expenses and had few users.

Henry stated he would do his best to help in the setting up of a wet market in Trusan town.

Also present during the onehour visit was Lawas District Information Officer, Syahrulizan Madian.

Henry asked Syahrulizan to look into the earlier arrival of newspapers to the district and ensure that activities were covered by the media.
