Police report lodged on distribution of defamatory materials

LAWAS: The Youth wing of PBB Bukit Sari has lodged a police report here against the opposition for distributing defamatory materials against Bukit Sari assemblyman Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan and Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud during campaigning for the April 16 polls.

The report listed seven incidents which occurred during the campaigning period.

Its leader councillor Semie Haji Nasip said they wanted the relevant authorities to take legal action against those who had defamed the two state leaders. He said there was a need to put a stop to this “unhealthy culture” practiced by the opposition.

Last Saturday, Awang Tengah retained Bukit Sari for the sixth time by garnering a staggering 5, 063 majority vote.

On BN’s failure to retain Ba Kelalan, Semie replied that the people’s voice had to be respected.

He, however, said he was proud that Willie Liau only lost narrowly to state PKR liaison chief Baru Bian despite being introduced to the constituents barely a day before nomination.

“His (Liau) strength is his youth, fighting spirit, and willingness to work hard for the BN’s struggle right to the last minute.”

Meanwhile, Bukit Sari Youth planned to hold a thanksgiving gathering soon as a gesture of appreciation to all those who had worked hard to ensure victory in the election.

CALL TO INVESTIGATE: Semie and PBB Bukit Sari Youth deputy head Awang Emran Awang Damit (fourth and fifth left) showing the police report they had lodged.
