Pemaih Golf derma untuk Church
MIRI: Some RM11,000 was raised through a golf competition organised by a group of Orang Ulu golfers here over the week-end towards the building of an interior church in Long Semadoh, Lawas District.
This was disclosed by a spokesman of the organising committee, Daniel Punang to New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
“The fund-raising event was meant to raise funds to buy building materials for Long Telingan Church in Long Semadoh, in the upper reaches of Trusan River.
“The money was handed over to a representative of the church, Madam Demaris Abai on the same day the fund was collected from among the participating golfers,” he explained.
According to Daniel, the fund, though still insufficient, was meant to buy some building materials such as nails, cement, iron bars, roofing and the like.
He explained that the cost of building the church would be absorbed by members of the Long Telingan Church through community- based projects.
Daniel, an engineer working for Shell in Miri, thanked the golfers for participating in the programme.
“It’s a good start for such an event in raising funds for needy churches, and I would like to thank and congratulate the golfers,” he said, adding that in the future, nongolfers could also chip in to collect more fund.
The competition, played at Eastwood Valley & Country Club here, was organised by the Golf Lun Tau, consisting of Lun Bawang, Kelabit and Lun Dayeh golfers.
Regular competitions among the same family tree races had been organised over the years, Daniel explained.
Meanwhile, Daniel announced that there will be another golf competition among members of the Golf LunTau this month end.
“The competition, which will include members from Lun Bawang, Kelabit and Lun Dayeh from Sabah, will be a two-day event from 28-29 May,” he revealed.
