CM: Teachers’ contribution to country’s development vital
LIMBANG: Human capital development that is more holistic and innovative is the basic quality to make Malaysia a developed nation with higher income by 2020.
That is why teachers’ contribution to the attainment of the country’s developed status is vital.
Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said the government is aware of the contribution by teachers to produce a more knowledgeable, creative , innovative and skillful human capital.
“These efforts are inline with the central government to implement the New Economic Model and transform Malaysia into a higher income and knowledgeable country,” said the Chief Minister at the State Level Teacher’s Day celebration at Limbang Indoor Stadium here.
His text speech was read by the Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datin Fatimah Abdullah in the presence of Lawas MP Dato Henry Sum Agong, Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah, Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, State Education Director Abdillah Adam and Limbang Resident Maria Hasman.
“The government is confident that with an educated and trained human capital both domestic and external threat due to globalisation, liberalisation and convulsion of technological information could be addressed,” said Taib.
The Chief Minister also stressed that with the state having its various races and religions; education is the main agenda to ensure unity in the country.
This could be achieved with the implementation of an education system that values the importance of races and respecting the diversity,” he said.
The bigger challenge is waiting to achieve the main target especially to enhance the education services to the target group, literacy, basic skills and numerical, Higher School Prestige (HSP) and new offer based on the increase of performance.
He also touched on the success of the National Key Result Area (NKRA) excellence education of SK Ulu Lubai in the interior of Limbang and the Sekolah Menengah Sains Miri who achieved the HSP.
“The New Offer Initiatives also portrays its positives when the headmaster and teachers of 1,400 schools including teachers from the 122 Primary schools exceed the performance target.
“This enables them to receive incentive payments for their excellence services,” he added.
Taib said these efforts in the education sectors among the educators must be inline with the Government Transformation Programme (GTP).
At the same time, he wanted the educationists to increase their professionalism through education leadership including education officers, principals and headmasters creating capable leaders with integrity.
Meanwhile at the event, four Model teachers were chosen as the excellence achievers 2011 at the ceremony namely Wellington Rufus Nanang (Kuching), Awangku Mohmad Ali Pengiran Matsarudin (Limbang), Chen Chon Yu (Kuching) and a Special Leadership Award Model to Datu Putit Matzen, a former State Education director.
