Don’t believe promises Baru will be CM — Pairin
LAWAS: Sarawakians should not believe promises by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) that Baru Bian will be Chief Minister if the opposition coalition wins the election.
The warning came from Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, who said Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had made a similar promise to make his brother, Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, Sabah Chief Minister during the 2008 parliamentary election campaign.
Pairin stressed this was simply a tactic to gain the support of non-Muslim voters in Sabah.
“We hope the people of Ba Kelalan and Sarawak will not be easily manipulated by Anwar’s sweet promises. Sabah people know that he is only making use of the Chief Minister promise as a strategy to fish for votes,” Pairin told the Lun Bawang and Tagal community in Ba Kelalan, Long Semadoh, Long Sukang, Long Luping and Long Tuma yesterday.
“As a reminder, this same promise was given to Dr Jeffery where he was appointed as PKR vice-president at national level, however, Anwar was only making use of his name (Dr Jeffrey) to get votes from the non-Muslim Bumiputeras of Sabah.”
He said the people of Sabah are fed up with Anwar’s empty promises, which lured many leaders from Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) to quit and join PKR.
Pairin stressed that Anwar had promised these leaders important posts in Sabah government agencies and until today none of those promises have been fulfilled.
He cited how Dr Jeffery became frustrated with Anwar using him (Dr Jeffrey) to try to become Prime Minister and thus decided to leave PKR along with his supporters.
As a former PKR member, Pairin said, Dr Jeffery knows first-hand that Anwar does not have the interests of Sabahans and Sarawakians at heart.
“Don’t entertain these PKR leaders that are inconsistent with their promises to the people as proven with what happened in Sabah,” said the PBS president.
He urged the people of Ba Kelalan to vote for the BN’s candidate Willie Liau.
