Develop your talent and ability, CM tells youths
KUCHING: Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud wants youths to develop their talent and ability, and says the government is ready to help.

He said youth development was vital to keep up with the changes and challenges around the world.
“Young people must make it a lesson to develop their talent and ability and we in the government want the strength in youths to be developed to good use.” “The investment in development is a worthwhile one,” Taib commented at the opening of Kuching Integrated Recreational Centre (KIRC) in the compound of the Civic Centre here yesterday He said the development of youths was getting crucial, particularly when the nation was heading towards a higher income society.
Optimistic that youths had the desire to succeed, the chief minister said the government enabled youths to live a healthy lifestyle by providing recreational facilities.
Impressed with the KIRC, Taib said such facilities would be extended to areas like Miri, Mukah, Betong and smaller towns.
Recreational facilities encourage youths to keep healthy and also as a place for them to mingle. Good interaction among the people is important to transform society, he said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Social Development and Urbanisation Dato Sri William Mawan said KIRC had three futsal courts, two basketball courts, a badminton court, two sepak takraw courts and two volleyball courts.
Other facilities are open stage, parking lots and space for various activities. WiFi service is being implemented and the next phase is the construction of hostels and playing ground.
Before the opening event, a cycling activity was held from the compound of BaitulMakmur building to KIRC with Taib and wife Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib among the participants.
Also present were Youth Affairs and Training Assistant Minister Larry Sng, Chief Political Secretary to the Chief Minister cum Sarawak Cycling Association president Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association president Datuk Patrick Liew.
