Nasihat - Beware of ‘buy one free one gimmick’
KUALA LUMPUR: ‘Sale. Two for RM2.30’. That was what this writer saw after he recently hobbled into a gasoline station in Rawang near here.
The words were on a small notice placed against a row of canned drinks near the cashier’s counter.
Attracted by the ‘offer’, this writer took four cans of the drinks and placed the cans on the counter, together with a RM50 note to pay for the drinks.
The cashier, who is a foreigner, scanned the cans and the cash register sounded.
It read ‘RM6.20’ instead of RM4.60. When this writer complained, the cashier answered: “Harganya lain bagi lain tin (the price varies for different cans)”.
“Tapi notis tu kata RM2.30 dua tin” (But the notice said it is sold at RM2.30 for two cans), this writer told the cashier. The cashier called his supervisor, who turned out to be another foreigner.
He came and scanned the items again. This time the total came to RM5.20.
Social and consumer activist Fatimah Mansur said: “This is the festive season and consumers should be aware of several unscrupulous traders who are back to their old tricks.” — Bernama
