Opposition spreading lies in Serian — Manyin
SERIAN: Promoters of opposition parties are said to be resorting to desperate measures to win over the people’s support in Serian.

Infrastructure Development and Communication Minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin said the opposition’s desperate measures included spreading stories about Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) grassroots leaders leaving the party.
He said he had heard of malicious stories of chairmen of PBB sub-branches, as well as a certain PBB Youth leader from Serian, quitting the party to join an opposition party.
He pointed out that this was outright false story, as these people, including the PBB Youth leader in question, were still with PBB and had never left.
“The opposition is coming up with various strategies now to woo the voters, especially with the state election being not far away. My advice to all of you is that you should not be fooled and be misled by the opposition’s strategies,” he told a meet-the-people session at Kampung Tebedu Mawang near here yesterday.
Manyin, who is PBB vice- president and Tebedu assemblyman, also told the people to maintain Tebedu as a Barisan Nasional fortress.
“In the 1996 (when Tebedu seat debuted), 2001 and 2006 elections, Tebedu has always been a strong fortress for BN. In the coming election let’s continue to give our undivided support to the BN candidate,” he said.
Later, when met by reporters, Manyin said he was confident BN would still be the government after the election which must be called by July next year.
He said this was because the voters in rural seats were still very much with the BN, although the opposition would put up tough fights.
“The six Bidayuh seats namely Tebedu, Kedup, Tarat, Bengoh, Tasik Biru and Opar will still be under BN.
“We want the Bidayuhs to be able to participate and benefit from the New Economic Model, which aims to turn Malaysia into a high-income nation by 2020,” he said.
