UMNO Not Coming To Sarawak

KUCHING: Prime Minister and UMNO President Datuk Patinggi Mohd Najib Tun Razak has given the assurance that UMNO will not spread its wings to Sarawak.
He said UMNO would not come to Sarawak as PBB was strong and shared a common struggle with them (UMNO).

“PBB has been a faithful friend of UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) in all weather conditions. So, there is no necessity for UMNO to enter Sarawak.

“PBB is very successful and is able to lead the other BN component parties in Sarawak. As such, as long as it (PBB) can deliver, UMNO will not enter Sarawak,” said Najib when launching the PBB’s 12th Convention at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here yesterday.
Najib, who is also BN Chairman, said that the relationship between PBB and UMNO, and BN as a whole, had been very close even at the personal level.

“Taib, as a veteran leader has been very close to all the prime ministers, including me.
“Our relationship has even reached a personal level,” said Najib, adding that Taib was also a family friend since the time of his father, the late Tun Abdul Razak, the second Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister said that due to the similar struggle of UMNO and PBB, the livelihood of the people, especially Sarawakians, had greatly improved.

“Because of the closeness between PBB and the federal leaders, I will make sure that we will bring more development for Sarawak, especially in the rural areas, by giving bigger allocations under the National Key Results Area (NKRAs) and Key Performance Indicator (KPI), which I had announced last week,” he said, referring to the RM3.4 billion allocation promised during a visit to Rumah Radin in Lachau.

PBB President Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, in his welcoming speech earlier, said that PBB’s struggle had been consistently similar to that of UMNO’s.

“Since the days of the Tunku (first Prime Minister), our struggle has always been similar, which is, to struggle for the people especially those in the rural areas,” Taib added.
He said PBB received its power from the people through their mandate, which was then used to improve the livelihood of the people.

“The will of the people and the struggle of PBB cannot be alienated,” Taib said, adding that PBB’s responsibilities had become heavier in tandem with the people’s rising expectation. Taib praised Najib for his ability to come up with the 1Malaysia Concept which was a perfect slogan to unite the people.

“Now, with him helming the country, I can sleep soundly as he (Prime Minister) has shown he is serious in performing his duties to govern the country,” added Taib.

Among those present were the Prime Minister’s wife, Datin Patinggi Rosmah Mansor, the presidents of other BN component parties, PBB stalwarts, former Chief Minister and Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Ya’kub, and Najib’s mother Tun Rahah Noah.
