Dr Rundi’s youthful enthusiasm a plus point
KUCHING: Public Utilities Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said the appointment of Kemena assemblyman Dr Stephen Rundi Utom as assistant minister was an added advantage to the ministry.
He said Dr Rundi’s knowledge and youthful enthusiasm were vital for the ministry to move faster forward in the right direction.
“This is so that we can meet the current demands which are getting more and more challenging,” he said when speaking at the ministry’s annual dinner at Santubong Resort last Saturday.
Dr Rundi, who is also State Barisan Nasional secretary- general, was appointed as Assistant Minister of Public Utilities from Dec 1 last year following a minor cabinet reshuffle.
He replaced Datuk Ambrose Blikau who was ‘dropped’ from the cabinet. Dr Rundi also holds the portfolio of Assistant Minister of Public Health.
Awang Tengah in his speech also urged the staff in the ministry to maintain high level of teamwork and to be always committed in serving the people.
“The ministry bears a lot of responsibilities nowadays. We need to meet the people’s demands in terms of supplying electricity, clean water and the provision of basic communication system,” he said.
He added that the ministry also had to meet the demands of Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) and the National Key Results Area (NKRA) objective of providing more rural infrastructure to the state.
“We need to pay serious attention to these matters as they are directly connected to the functions and responsibilities of the ministry,” he said.
Also present at the dinner were Dr Rundi, Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Water Supply) Sylvester Entrie Muran and the ministry’s permanent secretary Ubaidillah Abdul Latip.
The dinner was the climax to the Family Day programme by the Ministry.
