Lawas folk advised not to abuse the Internet
L AWAS : Commu n i c a t i o n facilities such as the Internet and the Information and and Comuunication Technology (ICT) should be utilised in a proper manner, advised Awang Haris Naruddin, the Chairman of the Kampung Punang PBB unit.
This was important as many blogs and other websites had been misused as tools to discredit individuals and political leaders, he said.
This new culture had spread even to small district like Lawas as several blogs and websites had been set up by individuals in the district, said Haris when met during the ‘1Malaysia with Leaders Programme’ jointly organised by the Lawas Special Affairs Department (JASA), Limbang Office of the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation, PBB Wanita of Kampung Punang and Kampung Punang Jaya, and the Persatuan Perkumpulan Wanita Sarawak (PPWS) of Kampung Punang, at Kampung Punang recently.
He regretted the irresponsible attitude of some of the people who made use of blogs to express their dissatisfaction against government leaders with inappropriate words and phrases.
“We must not give such examples for the younger generation because this can destroy the unity and racial harmony that have been created by our present and past leaders.
“We need to show a professional attitude that is in line with our educational background and not behave like small children who need to be monitored,” he said.
Meanwhile, among the activities featured during the 1Malaysia Programme included a women’s 7-a-side football, parang sheathmaking competition, a musical presentation, and aid presentation to special children and single mothers.
Also present were Sarawak Administration Officer (SAO) for Sundar Sub-district, Ladin Atok and main sponsor of the programme, Awang Damit Ali Hassan.
