CM In China, Seeking Economic Co-Operation

Chief Minister Pehin Sri Hj Abdul Taib Mahmud is currently in China from April 11 to 19 to seek economic cooperation, particularly in the power sector.

Together with him in the entourage are Second Minister of Planning & Resource Management and Minister of Public Utilities Datuk Amar Hj Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, his two deputies Sylvester Entri and Dr Stephen Rundi, State Secretary Datuk Amar Hj Morshidi Hj Ghani, director of the State Planning Unit, Datu Hj Ismawi Ismuni, permanent secretary to the Ministry of Public Utilities Hj Ubaidillah Hj Latip, chairman of Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) Datuk Hamed Sepawi, and CEO of SEB Torstein Dale Sjotveit.

The entourage also includes various heads of departments and officials from both Sarawak Energy Berhad and the Ministry of Public Utilities.

On their first day, they were feted to dinner by Shu Yinbiao, the vice-president of the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). They visited the SGCC UHV Test Base, and the Shisanling Pump Storage Hydropower Station. Accompanying them was the deputy Director-General of the International Cooperation Department, Cheng Mengrong.

Later in the same evening, the visitors had a meeting with the president of SGCC, Liu Zhenya, with fruitful discussion on topics of interest to both Sarawak and SGCC.

They will be heading for Yichang on Thursday to visit the famous Three Gorges Dam and the Gezhouba Dam, and also to hold discussions with the management of the China Three Gorges Project Corporation (CTGPC).
