GOOD EARNINGS FOR LAWAS FISHERMEN

LIMBANG: Fishermen in Lawas are doing well, thanks to assistance from the government.The fishermen belong to the Lawas area fishermen's association (PNK) and have benefited from participating in the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority's (LKIM) high impact project.

Lawas PNK general manager Pada Bijo said with the aid, the fishermen should be motivated to work hard to increase the quality of their catch and income. "The performance of these aid recipients will be monitored by the association to ensure that the aid given is not in vain," said Pada.

He said this during a simple handing over ceremony of the assistance.Meanwhile, Lawas PNK chief Awangku Tajuddin Pengiran Ibrahim said the good performance of fishermen in the area had won them the state level LKIM Desa Wawasan award.

The latest winner, Kampung Bangsal Awat-Awat, was also nominated for the national level competition this year.

Tajuddin said the village had booked a place in the final against 12 others for the title of national champion.
